Since 1997, Gulf Coast Aquatics has partnered with a Property Owners Association in Charlotte County, Florida, providing monthly management for one large community lake. Through proactive inspections, aquatic vegetation management, algae control, and water quality observations, we help preserve one of the community's most valuable common assets.
The Challenge
Managing a single lake may sound simple, but every lake develops its own seasonal personality. Warm temperatures, heavy summer rainfall, nutrient-rich runoff, and changing water levels all influence aquatic vegetation throughout the year. At this property, one recurring priority has been managing Southern Naiad, a native submerged aquatic plant that provides ecological benefits in moderation but can reduce open water when growth becomes excessive.
Routine inspections also monitor for nuisance algae, Hydrilla, floating vegetation such as duckweed and watermeal, and shoreline plants including torpedograss and alligatorweed. Identifying these conditions early allows maintenance decisions to remain proactive rather than reactive.
